Flashback to
January 28th, 2009
Thousands upon thousands of fans are jam packed
into the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for Global Championship
Wrestling’s pay per view offering Game Over.
The fans in attendance are currently watching in wide-eyed amazement at
the brutality of the current encounter between Corey Jones, formerly known as
Jessica Lasiewicz, and her opponent Malcolm Cross. This match is not just a normal match. This is a street fight, which plays to the strengths
of both competitors. The fans know this
and thus they knew going in that this would no doubt be a bloodbath of violence
and brutality.
There are two individuals watching from the
backstage area who are taking a far greater interest in this match for far more
personal reasons. Those individuals are
Kyle Butler, who happens to be Corey’s boyfriend, and Marie Annabelle Jones,
who happens to be Corey’s sister.
For the fans in attendance, this match
between Corey and Malcolm has been entertaining to say the very least. It has been quite the show stealer, even, for
this GCW event. But for Kyle and Marie,
this match has produced a roller coaster of emotions. There have been fear and grief whenever
Malcolm would dish out to punishment to Corey.
There would be jubilation whenever Corey would turn things around and
beat down Malcolm. And it would go that
way for the entirety of the match, up and down, joy and grief, nervousness and
happiness…
…but nothing could prepare them for what
would happen to bring about the end of the match.
“My God…this can’t be happening…”
Marie asks, with her jaw hanging slightly
open, a hand held over her mouth. Kyle
Butler, for his part, just nods his head to confirm her fears are true.
“Yeah, the table is being set on fire.”
Malcolm Cross has been joined by multiple
competitors who have all attacked Corey Jones. This being a street fight there
is nothing the referee can do to stop them.
They have set the table aflame and now Malcolm has Corey up upon his
shoulders. Marie and Kyle both gasp in unison…
“We have to get out there!”
Marie exits the dressing room. Kyle shouts after her…
“Marie, wait!”
Kyle takes off after her. They miss what happens next. They miss Corey being tossed through the
flaming table, which leads to her defeat.
They arrive too late to stop anything.
The beat down has already happened.
The damage has been done. Corey
Jones is all but finished.
January 30th,
2015
It has now
been a few days since that brutal match between Corey Jones and Malcolm Cross
at the GCW event. And yet she still has
further wrestling obligations to fulfill.
In this case, she has to travel to New Orleans and do battle with Rachel
Foxx, formerly Rachel Frost. It will be
a Shot of Adrenaline Tournament Match and thus it becomes all that much more
important as points are on the line and their own futures in this unique
tournament could very well be decided in this one match.
Marie
Annabelle Jones is not just concerned with her sister’s physical well
being. Granted, going from a street
fight with someone like Malcolm Cross immediately to a one on one match with
someone as talented and dangerous as Rachel Foxx would be an insane task for
most competitors to take on and yet Corey has no problems taking it on. That either shows Corey’s toughness or her
lack of mental stability in not really caring about her own physical well
being. And that brings up the other
issue that also has Marie concerned…
…is Corey
Jones mentally ready for this challenge?
Marie has questioned her sister’s mental stability ever since she
decided to drop the Lasiewicz name, ever since she decided to drop her first
name of Jessica. Now there is nothing
wrong with wanting to represent your mother’s family. Corey’s mother is the famous (or infamous,
depending on who you ask) Angelica Jones.
Going by the famous Jones name is nothing to bat your eyes at. But it seems as if Corey’s actions ever since
then have been questionable, especially her decision to go after Malcolm Cross
in the manner that she did that led to the street fight.
It is these
concerns that bring Marie Annabelle Jones away from New York City and away from
her IWC Uprising duties to the city of Boston, Massachusetts, her hometown, so
that she can track down her sister and try to talk to her and see if she is
truly ok and ready for Foxx and Breakdown.
The scene
is that of a house, in Boston, Massachusetts; a large house but not overly so,
in Victorian fashion. Based on its
outward appearance you can tell the person living there is “well-off” but
doesn’t like to flaunt it, for it is somewhat modest. There is a sidewalk that leads to a parking
area where a red 2015 Ford Taurus is parked.
The driver’s side door opens and Marie Jones herself steps out into full
view. The confident IWC & GCW superstar
is wearing blue denim jeans, black high heeled boots, and a black long sleeved
sweater. Her long
gorgeous ginger locks hang unrestrained to just below the shoulders.
She
stares up the walkway and at the house for just a moment and considers
the possibilities. Is this the Corey she
knew from several weeks ago? The one who
swore she was changing, that she was going to drop her father’s identity, drop
her mother’s identity, and become her own person? Or is this the person, the monster some might
say, who went toe to toe with Malcolm Cross in GCW? Regardless of who it is, is it someone who
can stand up to and face Rachel Foxx on SCW Breakdown? After the moment passes Marie begins to
make her way up the walk with a determined stride, until the gets to the front
door, where she stops. Again she pauses
for a moment, taking all of this in, before she begins to bang on the front
door.
Jones
waits for several seconds before banging again on the front door. She waits again and this time she hears
someone approaching from inside. It
isn’t long afterwards that the door creaks open. Marie rests her eyes upon her
sister, Corey Jones.
Corey
stands there in the doorway looking ever so luxurious in a fancy, sparkling
silver sequined form-fitting dress with a hemline that stops right at the
knee. She stands perched atop matching
silver peep-toe sling-back high heeled shoes.
Her long lovely hair locks of hair hang down straight and unrestrained
to just below shoulder length.
Marie can
think back to when her sister fist told her that she had changed her name to
Corey Jones and at that point she could tell a major difference in her attitude
and dress, but it seems as if she has changed yet again, gone even farther down
that path. Now, as Marie stares at her
sister and takes appraisal of her, she seems to get the impression of someone
with a regal nature.
“My favorite sister!”
Corey
embraces Marie with a tight hug. She
then kisses her on her left cheek and then does the same on her right. She smiles warmly as she steps aside and
motions for her to come inside.
“Come in!
You know you’re always welcome here!”
Marie nods
her head. “Thanks, sis.”
Marie steps
through the front door. Corey shuts it
behind her and then walks on in front of Marie, leading her down the hallway. Corey then leads her into a room, the living
room to be precise. Corey is the first
to sit down, find a seat on a nice comfortable spot on the sofa, which is plush, golden,
and very comfortable. Marie
immediately walks over and sits down next to her.
The rest
of the living room can also be described as simply “comfortable” but also
containing some items that illustrate how well-off young Corey is,
including large plants near a window, a fancy fireplace with an expensive
looking painting hanging overhead, and a large television set mounted on an
adjacent wall.
“You have definitely…” Marie pauses as she searches for the
proper word to describe her surroundings “…improved
things since I was last here.”
Corey
chuckles lightly. “Oh just a little bit,
eh?”
Corey
looks around from side to side, taking in the atmosphere herself, and then she
turns back to face Marie and sighs.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.
I guess I have done a little remodeling.
But I think I deserve it. What do
you think?”
Marie
pauses for a moment before nodding her head. “Well…you have been through a great deal of pure hell lately…”
“Exactly” Corey remarks.
“But…” Marie points an accusatory finger at Corey “…some say you brought it on yourself.”
“Ah, I get it now…” Corey shakes her head “…I see where this is going.”
“Don’t get mad,” Marie starts “but you did provoke Malcolm Cross, you have been overextending yourself
between GCW and SCW. You have been doing
all of this. Eventually you are bound to…”
“Snap?” Corey offers, her facial expression not changing as she
still offers up that same grin.
“I never said you had snapped, sis.”
“But it was implied.” Corey remarks. “But that’s fine, because if I am perfectly frank, I had snapped. I did go over the edge. Although, it wasn’t my fault.”
“Then who are you putting the blame on?”
“Oh well that’s easy.” Corey laughs lightly. “It’s all the fault of the poison I
inherited from Andreas Lasiewicz and, in some small part, the poison I
inherited from our mother.”
Marie is
used to Corey’s temper getting the better of her. She is also used to her sister Corey saying
things that she may not mean. And yet
she never expected to hear this statement being made, one that seemingly
implies her disgust and disdain she now holds towards her father. Granted, she had said it point blank to Marie
before. The only difference is that
Corey has, apparently, implied that has disowned him altogether.
Another
thing that makes this rather disturbing is the fact that Corey says it with a
smile on her face while chuckling under breath.
It is as if it doesn’t really matter to Corey. It is almost as if it doesn’t bother her one
iota.
Needless
to say, Marie wants to interrogate further…
“The poison you got from Andreas Lasiewicz?” Marie
repeats with raised eyebrows. “Don’t you
mean your father?”
Corey’s
face had been one of bright smiles but now it changes. A frown spreads across her face as she stares
at Marie. The stare lasts for several
seconds and, for a moment, Marie is concerned.
She is nervous about what might happen, about what is going through her
sister’s mind. But then Corey smiles
again as she reaches out and places a hand upon her shoulder.
“Listen, sweetie, it’s time I told you the truth.”
“The truth?”
“That person who picked fights with Silas World, that person
who provoked Malcolm Cross, that person is now gone. Dead and gone.”
Marie
nods her head. “You told me all of this
before. You are Corey Jones, you dropped
your father’s name and are going by mom’s.
But that doesn’t explain why you’re disowning him now.”
“You didn’t let me finish.” Corey
pats Marie on the head. “Bad girl.”
Marie
rolls her eyes. “Fine, then finish.”
“Changing my name wasn’t enough. Dying my hair wasn’t enough. I knew I had to do more in order to complete
what would be my full transformation. I
needed help from…” she smirks knowingly “…someone.”
“Someone?” Marie asks curiously. “Who?”
“That’s not important.
What is important is that person suggested that since Jessica Lasiewicz
provoked Malcolm Cross to such an irate rage, that I just let Cross finish the job. It was his suggestion that Jessica Lasiewicz
be baptized in fire at the hands of Malcolm Cross and so she was. She died that night and I was truly born that
night.”
“That still doesn’t explain anything.” Marie
says, shaking her head. “Your father…”
“My father is someone who would not abandon me when the
going got tough! My father is not some
freak with an out of control temper! My
father doesn’t play politics! My father
is damn sure a better man than Andreas Lasiewicz!”
Corey
jumps up off of the sofa and walks over to the other side of the room. She props herself up with her head rested
upon the wall. Marie stares uneasily at
her. If what she had heard earlier
concerned her, what she hears now is downright disturbing. She literally considers herself a brand new
person. This is strange and while she is
slightly fearful, she does feel as if her sister needs some sort of
comfort. So Marie gets up off of the
sofa herself and walks over to the wall, joining Corey and wrapping an arm
around her shoulder.
“It’s ok, sis…”
“Look, Marie,” Corey turns to face Marie “I know you respect him. I know in some way you view him as a father
figure because yours died before you could get to know him. And I do appreciate that. But that doesn’t hold true for me any
longer. The person you knew as Jessica
Lasiewicz is now dead. She is dead and
gone. You need to accept it.”

If you
ever go to New Orleans, be sure to visit Jackson Square. There you will find a historic park and
specifically the statue of one of the most polarizing men in United States history,
namely Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States.
Jackson
was known as the hero of New Orleans, for it was in that city that he fought
off the British in the War of 1812.
Jackson went on to take Florida away from the Spanish before he
eventually became president of the United States. He was a controversial leader, loved by some,
hated by others. Evidence of that is
today’s Democratic Party. Jackson,
himself a Democrat, was called a jackass so much by his political rivals and he
loved it, loved it to the point that he adopted the symbol as his party’s symbol.
Perhaps
you and I are much like Andrew Jackson, Rachel.
Our past creates controversy. Our
past turns you and I into polarizing figures.
Now Jackson is dead, dead and gone, and there is no way to change public
opinion of him. You can only look at
what he did and decide for yourself what you think of the man.
But you
and I still have the chance to either continue down our path or change things, perhaps
for the better. I choose to change who I
am. I choose to transform and become
someone new, someone different, someone far more deadly than the person who had
once been a part of SCW.
The fact
is that my talents and abilities alone make me a deadly weapon in this
company. I do not need to blindside my
opponents the way my Aunt Kayla has been doing lately. I do not need to distract anyone or accept
forfeit victories the way my mother Angelica has.
And you
know what else? I do NOT need to be The
Morning Star. I do not need to be a
psychotic sociopath with a temper. I do
not need to be a bloodthirsty monster. I
can outwrestle anyone in this company.
That is not arrogance, that is a fact.
I am good
enough to go out there and get the job done on my own and that is exactly what
I will do on Breakdown when we meet one on one, Rachel. And I will do it not just because I can do it
but because I need to do it. I am behind
on points, Rachel. But then again, so
are you. Thing with me is that I could
have been SCW Adrenaline Champion…
…I was oh
so close to winning and walking away with gold but I let it slip away. I did, no one else. I blame no one else but me because I allowed
myself to be distracted from what was really important. I allowed myself to lose focus.
That will
not happen again. At Breakdown it’s as
simple as we wrestle, I beat you , I get my points, and then I move on to the
next match.
It’s that
simple.
