The night
life in Anaheim, California is normally nothing out of the ordinary as compared
to other cities in the United States.
All it takes is the addition of thousands upon thousands of college aged
young adults to make it even more of a party atmosphere than usual and that is
exactly what is going on as the NCAA Tournament begins to shift, evolve, and
those teams that have advanced move on to the West Coast city for the Sweet
Sixteen round, with dreams of advancing, surviving, and maybe, just maybe, a
national championship on their horizon.
Duke
University’s Blue Devils advanced to the Sweet Sixteen with a victory over Yale
and that means Corey Jones has a ticket to Anaheim as well. Unfortunately she will be unable to attend
the next Duke game, for she has another duty and obligation to fulfill and that
is to face off against Gigi Steward on SCW Breakdown in Mexico City,
Mexico. This stop in Anaheim is merely a
brief visit to support the team and the cheerleaders before she travels down
south to wrestle. All of this is a test
of Corey Jones’s ability to juggle her duties and responsibilities not only to
Duke University but to Supreme Championship Wrestling as well.
Helping her
juggle her duties is none other than her half-sister Marie Annabelle Jones and
that is why the UWA superstar is on the road traveling with Corey. Today they are in Anaheim with the Duke Blue
Devils, the next day they will be on their way to Mexico City for SCW
Breakdown, and then Corey travels with Marie to UWA to support her as she
attempts to become number one contender to the UWA World Championship. The sisters are providing one another with
the one thing both have lacked for a long time: a true support system.
For Corey, a
support system such as this could not have come at a more opportune time. She was just about to crack under the
pressure of being an active Duke Cheerleader, active student, and an active
wrestler in two companies when her older sister Marie came along to help out. Now Corey has someone to talk to about her
personal issues, such as those regarding her cheerleading, her studies at Duke,
or her relationship with fellow wrestler Kyle Butler. She also has someone who can help her prepare
for matches such as the one she has against Gigi Steward on SCW Breakdown.
Marie gets
something out of it too. Marie not only
has the tag tournament in UWA to prepare for but she has her own personal
issues to deal with. She was recently
attacked by two thugs from the Russian Mafia, an attack that turned out was all
a distraction intended to allow for the kidnapping of Marie and Corey’s younger
sister Kelly. Granted, Kelly is now safe
and sound back in the arms of their mother but still, the threat of future
attacks from the Russian Mafia is still there, especially now that the Jones
family knows the Russian Mafia holds a grudge against them. Then there is the other personal issue Marie
has been dealing with, one that has Corey and the entire Jones family excited
and in the happiest of moods…
…the
impending marriage of Marie Annabelle Jones to Arthur Pond.
“This is soooooo exciting!”
That’s the
joyful and exuberant voice of Corey Jones as she walks in side by side through the
double doors of the hotel where she is staying in Anaheim, California, next to
Marie Annabelle Jones. Corey has a can
of soda in her hand, taking a sip as they walk into the lobby. Marie, though, seems a bit more cautious than
Corey. She has no drinks with her and
while Corey seems to bound right on in without a second thought, Marie seems to
hang back for a moment, looking around from side to side, scanning the room
nervously. Seeing this Corey stops dead
in her tracks and turns to look at Marie with an arched brow.
“Are you ok, sis?”
Clearly
Marie is NOT ok and Corey knows it. She
walks back over to Marie and whispers to her.
“What’s wrong?”
Marie
remains silent for a few more moments as she continues to scan the lobby. Finally she sighs and nods her head.
“I’ll…uh, I’ll be fine.”
Corey doesn’t
buy any of it. She shakes her head.
“You can’t lie to your sister, Marie. Now tell me, what’s wrong?”
“Oh fine…it’s just…”
Marie sighs
and shakes her head.
“…it’s just that after what happened to me
and Arthur in the park and then after Kelly got kidnapped, I’m just kind of
nervous.”
“We’re safe, Marie.”
The older
sister shakes her head vehemently.
“We are never safe, especially not with The
Bratva over here now trying to get us.”
She pokes
Corey in the chest.
“And quite frankly, you should be concerned
too. Last time I checked, you were a
Jones.”
Corey grins
knowingly.
“Y’know, I could change my last name to
Lasiewicz again if that will make you feel better.”
Marie rolls
her eyes.
“You know what I mean, Corey.”
“I doubt anyone would go out of their way to
track us down here, but if you will feel any safer why don’t we ask the front
desk attendant?”
Corey turns and
approaches the front desk in the lobby.
Marie follows her closely behind, but still watches from side to side,
just in case anyone is watching or if anyone decides to attack. At the desk Corey rings the bell to get his
attention. The attendant turns around
and he smiles politely.
“How may I help you, Ms. Jones?”
“Did anyone come by asking about me or my
sister while we were out?”
The attendant
shakes his head.
“Not at all, Ms. Jones.”
“Thank you.”
Corey turns
and faces Marie, placing her hands on her hips.
“Satisfied?”
“Not exactly but it’ll do.”
With that
Corey turns and walks over towards a pair of elevators. Marie follows her. She presses the button to call for the
elevator. The sisters wait for a few
moments until the doors to the elevators open up wide for them. Corey and Marie step inside and the doors
shut. After pressing another button for
their floor they wait as it takes them up.
The elevator comes to a stop and the doors re-open. Marie and Corey exit the elevator and begin
walking down the long hallway. Marie is
the first to break the ice.
“I don’t know how you do it.”
Do what?”
“Remain so calm in such situations.”
“Who says I’m calm?”
After making
it to the end of the hall, they turn towards a door. Corey reaches into her pocket and produces a
key card. She inserts it into the door
and the door unlocks. Corey pushes the
door open and her and Marie step inside the hotel room. Once inside Corey sits down on the edge of
the bed and Marie walks over and stands over her.
“So, you are worried?”
“Of course I am. Kelly was kidnapped and who knows what they
did to her while those jerks had her?
And now grandpa is gone…”
Marie nods
her head.
“Yeah, I know.”
“But there’s nothing I can do about it
except have faith that everything will work out for the best in the end.”
Marie grins
as she sits down on the bed next to Corey.
“Where did you get THAT kind of
optimism? You sure as hell didn’t get it
from your dad.”
“No, I guess I do have a lot of our mom in
me. That or I am real good at pretending
to be ok.”
“I don’t think that’s the case…”
Marie takes
Corey’s hands and holds them tightly.
“…you have made so much progress since you
nearly broke down the other week. You
don’t let the pressure and the stress of these crisis situations get to
you. You just do what you have to
do. You cheer at the Duke games, you
study for your tests, you prepare for your wrestling matches…”
Corey sighs
as she interrupts Marie in mid-sentence.
“Don’t remind me of that one. I don’t look forward to facing Gigi Steward
on Breakdown.”
“Why not?
You just beat Dylan Howell in the Shot of Adrenaline Tournament. You should beat her just fine.”
“I know I can beat Gigi, sis. I just…”
Corey shakes
her head.
“…I don’t know.”
“Then what’s the problem? From where I sit, you have no problems. You seem to have things well in hand and
definitely under control. If I were
Gigi, I’d be damn worried about Breakdown.”
Corey smiles
warmly.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence, Marie.”
“I mean it.
I wish I could handle stress like you, especially this…”
Marie
flashes her diamond engagement ring.
“…I am scared to death!”
“Why?”
“Why am I scared? Corey, I have tried to find Mr. Right for so
long that I had almost given up hope. They would all turn out to be jackasses
or they would run away. I’m almost
wondering what’s going to go wrong with this one.”
Corey shakes
her head.
“There is absolutely NO reason for you to
worry. You and Arthur are absolutely
perfect for one another. I’m just so
glad you found your Mr. Right, Marie.”
Marie
embraces Corey in a tight hug.
“Thanks, sis…and if I may be so bold as to
ask…”
She breaks
the embrace and grins from ear to ear.
“…would you be the maid of honor?”
Corey grins.
“Do you have to ask? Of course I’ll be your maid of honor!”
The siblings
embrace again.
“And maybe someday you’ll get to return the
favor.”
Marie breaks
the embrace and grins knowingly.
“Oh, did Kyle pop the question?”
Corey shakes
her head.
“No, and that’s also got me worried. What’s keeping him from asking me? We have known each other for so long now and
have dated for so long now. I’d hate to
think he’s…well…”
“Now YOU’RE the one needlessly worrying.”
Marie once
again grips Corey’s hands tightly in order to comfort her.
“Kyle loves you, I can tell that when I see
the two of you around one another. He
will pop the question, I just know it.
It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when, and when he does, he
will make you the happiest girl on this planet.”
“I hope you’re right. My biggest fear is that before when I was,
well for lack of a better term, ‘pretending’ to be someone I wasn’t, trying to
be different things for different people, that I turned some people off to me,
and I began to worry that maybe no one
would ever give me a chance. The fact
that Kyle gave me a chance makes me feel so special and I don’t want to lose
that. Ever.”

Missing
Retribution totally sucked, and you know, I could throw a temper tantrum like
Dylan Howell…whose ass I, like, totally kicked a couple weeks ago on Breakdown…or
I could protest like my mom and my aunt Kayla…but what good has that done them
lately…but I think everyone in SCW can agree that both approaches are
completely lame.
This is
professional WRESTLING. When we have
issues to deal with we deal with them in the ring and that’s the way I like it,
because it puts the full weight and responsibility of making a difference upon
my shoulders and ONLY upon my shoulders.
If I fail to deliver on a good performance then SCW has every right to
keep me off the programming. It’s MY job
to show SCW that I am a competitor worthy of getting the best opposition, the
best matches, and who knows, maybe an opportunity at gold someday?
But I’m
getting ahead of myself. Truth is that
while I did beat Dylan Howell, that victory was not good enough to put me on
the Retribution card. And that’s fine,
that just means I need to get out there to that ring and show what I can do.
That’s where
you come in, Gigi.
Hola, Gigi Stewart!
¿Cómo estás?
In case you
were wondering, that means “Hello, Gigi
Steward! How are you?” I thought a little Spanish in honor of
our trip to Mexico would be well received for our fans down south! And prejudiced pig-headed “idiots” need not
apply!
No, you’re
not a stepping stone, Gigi. Don’t
misinterpret me by thinking that I view you as a stepping stone towards a
better place on the card. I would not
think that about anyone on our great roster…
…well, maybe
that Subway guy, but that’s a different story altogether…
…anyway, I
view this as an opportunity for me to show off what I can do and to do it
against someone who has been around the block in SCW a lot longer than me. In fact, I look at this and any match I get
booked in for SCW as an honor. It is an
honor to compete against you and anyone else in SCW because we truly do have
the best collection of athletes in wrestling today. And defeating you, why yes it would put my
name on the map and yes it would make people notice me.
Sorry to cut
this short, but I got things to do, a match to prepare for, and other stuff,
but the summary of it all is that I already beat Dylan Howell, just barely
missing the Shot of Adrenaline semi-finals, and now I have a chance to get back
into a winning streak, I have a chance to impress the fans and impress SCW and
show the world that I am far from finished in this company…
...I have
just begun!
