We open in a
hotel room in Detroit, Michigan. The
room was huge and didn't look like a hotel room at all, more like a guest suite. The bed was king-sized with pure white
sheets. There was a desk, a
thirty-six-inch TV with video and DVD, a sprawling leather sofa, and
floor-to-ceiling windows. It isn’t long
before Jessica Jones emerges from the bathroom.
She is wearing black denim jeans and a black “Archangel Jessica Jones”
t-shirt. Her long red hair hangs
unrestrained to shoulder length. This
young woman, better known in the pro-wrestling world as The Archangel, is carrying
an Apple iPad in her hand as she walks over to the king size bed. Jones hops up
onto the bed and flips her iPad open.
She begins pressing a few buttons, until Face Time pulls up. Jones waits patiently until a familiar face
emerges on the screen…
…her mother
and MCW legend, former MCW World Champion Angelica Jones.
“Hi mom,” Jessica says as she forces a
polite smile onto her lovely face “how
are you?”
“I’m fine, Jess, but I have to say this was
kind of a surprise. I haven’t heard from
you in a while.”
Jessica
sighs. “I’ve been busy.”
“Always cryptic, just like your father.”
Jessica
rolls her eyes. “I get it honestly, mom.
Besides, you’ve been known to be cryptic yourself in the past.”
“Not as much as your father. I never could get any straight answers out of
that man.”
“You just have to know how to read him,
mom. That’s all.”
Angelica
frowns. “Like you know how to read him?”
Jessica
shakes her head. “No, I don’t know how to
read him.”
Angelica
laughs. “So tell me, Jess, where are you
anyway?”
“My hotel room in Detroit.”
“Why would you be in Detroi…” Angelica’s
voice fades off as she ponders the question, then her face lights up as the
light bulb goes off in her head “…oh yeah, you’re in MCW now, aren’t you?”
Jessica nods
her head. “That’s right, and that’s why I
called. I need some advice against an acquaintance
of yours.”
“Oh?”
“Jacob Laymon.”
Angelica
nods her head with a serious gaze etched across her face. She recalls her time in MCW and her dealings
with Jacob Laymon. She was a three time
MCW World Champion during Jacob’s run as the owner of the company but rarely
were things smooth and easy going for them.
They fought before, verbally and even physically. There was even an instance of Jacob playing a
role in Angelica being hospitalized. If
anyone knows about how dangerous Jacob Laymon can be, it is Angelica Jones.
“What do you need to know about Laymon?”
“Anything you can tell me, mom. He’s my next opponent on Mayhem. I expect a tough challenge.”
Angelica
sighs and nods her head. “Yeah, it will
be a tough challenge. One word to
describe Jacob is cerebral. He is a
thinking man’s wrestler and he will try to outwit you.”
“What can I do to fight against him?”
“First of all you are faster than him, plus
he has aged a great deal since he was last in the ring. Use that to your advantage. And while he is a good technical wrestler, I
would dare say you are much better. You’ve
received training from three of the best technical wrestlers I know…Glory
Braddock, Randal Williams, and of course your father Andreas Lasiewicz.”
“So you think going hold for hold with him
is a good move?”
Angelica
nods her head. “I think you can go hold
for hold with him, yes.”
“Anything else I should know?”
“Just know that Jacob Laymon is dangerous
and will do whatever it takes to win.”
Jessica
smirks knowingly. “Good, because I will
do whatever it takes to beat him.”

Jacob
Laymon, the name is legendary within the annals of Motor City Wrestling. Never let it be said that The Archangel does
not give credit where credit is due. The
fact is Jacob Laymon more so than the fraud that came before him helped build
up MCW to what it was and kept it alive for so long. You did well for yourself and for
professional wrestling based upon your work with MCW and for that I do applaud
you.
Now you’re
back, not as the executive but as the competitor, trying to become world
champion once more…
…but things
didn’t work out in your favor. You lost
to Trinity Street and lost your chance to be in the Purgatory main event
against Rayne Young.
That must
really hurt, especially considering the trash talk you threw his way about how
he doesn’t have it in him anymore, how he’s through, how he’s done. Fact is, Jacob, you’ve been around the
pro-wrestling world for quite awhile yourself. I remember matches you had against my
mother, MCW Hall of Famer Angelica Jones, and her cousin, also a former MCW
World Champion Glory Braddock. I was
still a child when you were feuding with them.
I’m all
grown up now, Laymon. Time has done well
by me, giving me experience, knowledge, skills, and ability that I learned from
my mother, my father, and my entire family.
You claim time hasn’t done well by Rayne Young, and while he may not be
a saint by any stretch of the imagination, let us be completely fair here and
ask the same question of you…
…has time
been fair to you?
Trinity
defeated you, Jacob. She defeated you
and took you out of the world title picture.
Now granted
that was just one loss, and it was one loss to a spectacular competitor, but a
loss is a loss and you now have to consider the possibility of adding yet
another loss to your record.
If I lose it
doesn’t hurt me. I’m no legend yet, I’m
no icon, I’m just an Archangel trying to do right by professional
wrestling. I’m still learning and still
growing, still honing my craft. Being
defeated by the likes of the great Jacob Laymon would be no surprise to anyone.
But if you lose
a second straight match, this time to “The Archangel” Jessica Jones, the
spotlight will then be shining on you and not in the way you wanted it. No longer will people be questing if Rayne
Young still has it, but they’ll be questioning if you still have it.
I can see
into your soul, Jacob. For you this isn’t
about redeeming MCW or bringing it back to glory. That isn’t to say you don’t care about MCW,
because I’m sure you do. But you do have
something more important than that on your mind. This is about your own personal glory,
proving that you still have it, and the ultimate proof of that is the MCW World
Championship.
That’s where
I come in, isn’t it? At least as far as
you’re concerned. To you, I’m just a means
to an end; a way of proving that last Mayhem was just a fluke and that you still
have what it takes to be a contender.
Your reality
is that I am no stepping stone and last Mayhem was no fluke. I am The Archangel and while I know that deep
down you’d rather be focusing on the world title situation, I am hereby warning
you that I am not someone you should be looking past. You’re taking a dangerous gamble if you
choose to look past me, Jacob, because I will tear you apart.
Come and
place your bets…
