Trouble In Paradise: Part 5

They say that marriage is built upon compromise.  It is truthfully a little more complex than that. There is no one size fits all package for each and every couple who wish to be a part of the sacred tradition of marriage.  Sometimes one individual has to sacrifice just a little bit more than the other in order to make it work out.  Other times one individual has to sacrifice a great deal more than the other in order to make it work out.  But if it is what they both want, if they are both really and truly happy, then that is ok for them.

Marie Annabelle Jones has long sought out Mr. Right, the perfect man, so to speak, who could treat her well but, more importantly, be a father figure to her son.  Her son, Sean Connor Jones, is her life.  She loves him and cares about his well-being and at the same time she pities him because he doesn’t have a biological father in his life.  Marie knows how that feels, for her biological father died when she was very young.  What makes it all that much harder for Sean, a fact that the young child will have to deal with soon as he continues to grow up, is the fact that the reason he doesn’t have a biological father in his life is because his biological father raped Marie and that is why he exists today.  The rapist is dead now and Sean has no father figure, a real good person to look up to.

She had been looking for Mr. Right for a long time, ever since her son was born, nine years to be exact, seeing as her son is nine years old, and in that time she had been in some terrible relationships.  She has had some serious let downs.  But then Arthur Pond came along.

Arthur was seemingly an accident.  Marie was not actively hunting a boyfriend and, in fact, she had just about given up on finding a Mr. Right, a good father figure for Sean, when Arthur came along.  But they hit it off and they seemed to have a natural chemistry with one another.  One thing led to another and they quickly got married after dating just a little under a year.

Perhaps they should have dated longer and that was the mistake?  Perhaps had they dated longer Arthur would have realized the life he was getting himself into by marrying into the Jones family; a life of traveling to arenas all over the world watching his wife put her body on the line in a wrestling ring and a life of dealing with her family, more specifically, Marie’s identical twin sister Kimberly Williams.

Just a little over a year into their marriage and it was evident that the constant stress of traveling all over the nation and all over the world to those arenas to watch his wife get brutalized was taking its toll.  Having to put his own life on hold to ensure that Marie could live out her dreams was taking its toll.  The somewhat mentally unstable Kimberly Williams was taking her toll on Arthur.  Right or wrong, Arthur felt frustrated and delivered an ultimatum: Kimberly and the wrestling business or the marriage.  Marie couldn’t have both.

Marie honestly didn’t know what she was going to do as she debated within her own mind what was the right move.  It wasn’t until her twin sister, feeling the guilt of being part of the reason for the temporary break up, attempted suicide, that Marie’s eyes were opened to the answer…

…compromise.  Marriage is supposed to be built upon compromise and yes, it is true, she needed to compromise a little for the sake of their marriage, but what Arthur had offered was not a compromise.  It was an ultimatum; all or nothing.

Marie met up with Arthur in Providence, Rhode Island a few days before the SCW Under Attack pay per view and confronted him with her answer.  She wanted to make the marriage work but the ultimatum was not the answer.  And while compromise is possible, one thing she would not compromise on is her sister.  Kimberly needs help and Marie will never turn her back on her family.

Arthur seemed to be ok with it and seemed to be willing to make compromises as well.  That was all Marie needed to hear.  That was enough to make her day, and despite the fact that she lost to Bree Lancaster at Under Attack, Marie could not be brought down from the cloud nine she was riding; she had her husband back.  Her marriage would not fail.  Maybe, if they could work it out, they could make it last.

It’s a Thursday evening in Anaheim, California.  Marie and her husband are staying at a nice hotel in preparation for the SCW House Show appearance tomorrow evening.  But for now they are enjoying some quality time together.

Arthur Pond is lying in the king sized bed of the luxury suite.  He has a Wall Street Journal in his hand, reading it as he patiently waits for his wife to exit the bathroom and come to bed.  He barely notices the sound of the bathroom door shutting, but it is just enough to perk him up.

“Marie, are you finally ready” He chuckles. “It certainly took you long enough.”

“I think the wait will be worth it.”

“Hmmmm?” Arthur puts his Wall Street Journal down and finds his lovely wife standing there at the foot of the bed.  She is wearing a black lacy bra and panty number with black sheer nylon over her legs.  Long red hair hangs down to just below her shoulders.  Marie strikes a sexy sultry pose for him and his eyes grow wide at first but then they return to normal as a wide grin forms across his face.

“So, do you like what you see?” She asks playfully.

“You already know that I do.”

Marie strikes another sultry pose for a few seconds before waltzing ever so sexily towards the bed.  She climbs into the bed and then gets as close to Arthur as she can.  She stares deep into his eyes.

“Tell me, babe, am I doing a good job?”

“It’s hard to say,” Arthur says with a knowing smirk “we haven’t done the deed yet.”

“I don’t mean that, you dolt.” Marie says playfully. “I mean am I being a good wife?”

“Oh, that.”  Arthur answers.  “Don’t sweat that stuff, Marie.  It isn’t important anymore.”

“Yes, it is important.” Marie remarks, nodding her head. “Marriage is supposed to be all about compromise.  Yet when we got married you made all of the compromises but I made none, and I nearly lost you…”

“That wasn’t your fault, babe.” He kisses her on the lips. “I shouldn’t have put such a burden on you…the burden of the ultimatum that is…”

“Yeah, that ultimatum,” Marie chuckles lightly as she kisses him back, on the cheek, “while that wasn’t the right solution, you were right to tell me that I hadn’t made any compromises to make this marriage work.  We both need to make sacrifice something in order to make it work and you had sacrificed so much while I had sacrificed nothing.”

She runs her hands through his hair. “So this is me attempting to make compromises.  No more of the Kimberly Williams twenty-four-seven…”

“I gotta admit, knowing your sister won’t randomly burst in on us like this is rather comforting.” He chuckles.

“She promised to keep her distance when we need our personal time.  And as for me, I won’t necessarily show up to every SCW or GCW event…just those that I’m required to make an appearance at…maybe a few others, if my family needs me, but outside of that…” she kisses him on the lips passionately “…outside of that, you aren’t getting The Phoenix, The Crown Jewel of Professional Wrestling, you get your wife.  You get Marie Annabelle Pond.”

“Thank you, babe.” He returns the kiss with a kiss of his own on her lips. “I know it’s a sacrifice.”

“Nowhere near the sacrifice you’re making for me, babe.”

“It doesn’t matter who makes more sacrifices, just so long as we’re both happy, and I am happy right now, but as happy as I am, I still worry about you and your career.” He runs a hand through her long red hair. “You are wrestling Lexi Von Aaron soon, correct?”

“Yes, I am, on November 8th.” She smirks. “That leaves plenty of time to prepare for that psycho bitch.  The rest of my time is dedicated to you.”

“Works for me,” Arthur grins knowingly “as for right now…let’s go back to my original thought…”

“Huh?”

“Let’s find out if you’re DOING a good job…” he winks, hoping Marie will catch his drift.

“Oh yeah,” she snickers “I thought you’d never ask.”

They begin to passionately kiss.  Marie’s hands slowly begin to make their way down Arthur’s chest and then southward…

Professional wrestling is a big part of the life of Marie Annabelle Jones.  It practically IS her life as she was raised around it and she followed in her mother’s footsteps, becoming a second generation superstar.  She is dedicated to her craft and, currently, devotes her time not just to one, but two wrestling companies: Global Championship Wrestling and Supreme Championship Wrestling.

Luckily their events do not conflict but competing in two companies meant Marie would be traveling a great deal and competing a great deal of the time.  It meant little time for her husband that was, in fact, Arthur Pond’s biggest complaint about his wife’s wrestling career.  It took too much time away from their marriage.  He felt left out in the cold due to Marie’s focus on her professional wrestling.

Marriage is about compromise and Arthur has come to accept that his wife is a successful professional wrestler and that her career as a wrestler is what puts food on their table. On the same token, Marie has compromised as well.  Maybe she doesn’t have to be at every single house show?  Maybe she doesn’t need to be at every single Breakdown, only those she has to attend due to the fact that she is booked to compete or other reasons?

Thus Marie has cut back, even if it is just slightly, on her wrestling schedule.  She did it for the sake of her marriage and thus far she has found that it has, indeed, helped bring her and Arthur closer together as husband and wife.

Tonight, though, at the SCW House Show in Anaheim, Marie is scheduled to make an appearance.  This being an event that she cannot get out of, she and Arthur have made the trip to the Honda Center for the event.

A 2016 Ford Fusion pulls into a parking space near the front of the Honda Center.  As soon as the vehicle is put into park and turned off, Arthur Pond exits the vehicle from the driver’s side.  His wife Marie exits the passenger side shortly thereafter.  They have arrived early so that Marie can get some final preparation in before her own appearance tonight.  Yet, as important as these House Show appearances are, it is more important to win on camera, where it counts; when the world is watching.

The world watched as Marie fell to Bree Lancaster at Under Attack, despite putting up a valiant effort.  Marie wants to get back to her winning ways and she realizes that to do that she will have to start putting together a string of wins, including one against her next opponent on Breakdown, Lexi Von Aaron.

Performing well at a house show is one thing, but performing well on camera for the world to see is all that much more important.  Marie knows that she needs this win against Lexi Von Aaron.  She can’t afford to let this one get away from her.

Marie heads to the trunk in order to retrieve her bags…

“Whoa, hold on, babe.” Arthur rushes to the back of the vehicle.  He uses his key to pop the trunk.  “Allow me…”

He reaches in and gets Marie’s bags for her.  Marie smiles warmly.  “You don’t have to do this, Arthur.”

“I want to do this, Marie.” He leans in and kisses her in the cheek.  Marie then shuts the trunk.

“Arthur, be honest and tell me, are you SURE that you’re ok with this?  I mean, I thought my wrestling career was getting in the way of…”

“Hush that talk.” Arthur shakes his head. “I told you, all I wanted was more time for us. Ever since Under Attack you’ve spent every waking minute with me.  I can’t ask for much more of that and it would be unfair of me to keep you away from doing what you love.  I have to accept that you love doing this, even if I hate seeing you get hurt out there.”

“Don’t worry,” Marie smirks “I can dish it out just as much as I can take it.”

“Doesn’t make it any easier.” He remarks. “But still, I can’t keep you from your career.  That’s an unfair request from me.  So tonight, when the time comes, you do what you do best.  Ok?”

“Right, you got it.” Marie says, nodding her head.

Marie leans in and plants a kiss on his lips.  This romantic moment is suddenly interrupted with a familiar voice shouting off in the distance…

“MARIE!”

Arthur and Marie break the kiss and they both turn towards the sound of the voice.  They spot Marie’s mother, Angelica Jones, a good distance away, walking hurriedly towards their direction, making a beeline.  Arthur turns and looks at Marie…

“Marie, it’s your mom.”

“I can see that.”

“What does she want?”

Your guess is as good as mine.” Marie shrugs.

As Angelica gets closer to her daughter and son-in-law, it becomes quite evident that she isn’t too happy right now.  The look on her face is enough to kill a man, bring them back to life, and kill them all over again just for good measure.   Marie knows this look, she has dealt with her mother when she has had this look and, needless to say, it is not a pretty sight.  It takes a lot to get her mother this pissed off and Marie can only imagine what has gotten her this angry.

She guesses that it could have something to do with the beating her and Kayla took on the last edition of Breakdown at the hands of Dante McCaffery, Ms. Buddhe, and Jack Parker.  The Sisterhood was coming off of a nasty losing streak, a streak they snapped that very night at Breakdown, when Dante, Buddhe, and Parker decided to assault Marie’s mother and aunt.  That’s certainly reason enough to be angry, but why be angry with Marie?  It isn’t like she had anything to do with it.

Angelica storms up to her daughter and son-in-law.  Arthur smiles warmly and attempts to cool down what he anticipates to be a bad situation.

“Hi, Ms. Jones; you’re looking lovely today.”

“Can it, Arthur.” Angelica snaps. “I don’t need your comments, especially after what you put my daughter through recently.”

“Mom!” Marie chimes in, looking rather shocked that Angelica would bring this up here and now. “Arthur and I already worked things out!  I thought I already told you this!”

“Yeah, you told me.” Angelica points at Arthur. “But men like him will take advantage of you, Marie.  Men in general cannot be trusted.”

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Marie exclaims. “You’re being way out of line!”

Mother and daughter stare each other down for a tense moment while Arthur, wisely, just exercises his right to remain silent.  Eventually Angelica loses this game of chicken as she sighs and just shakes her head.

“You’re right, Marie…I’m out of line…” she turns to look at Arthur “…but I still need to talk to my daughter.  Alone.”

“Say no more.” Arthur feels as if this is a blessing in disguise; an opportunity to get away from a clearly upset and angry Angelica Jones.  He does not want nor need to be in the middle of what he anticipates to be a hot feud.  “I’ll take your bags inside, Marie.”

“Sure…” Marie’s voice fades off as she watches Arthur walk away.  Once he is out of eyesight and earshot, Marie turns back to look at her mother. “…now what the hell is wrong with you?!”

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Angelica counters. “I mean, you’re right, me snapping at Arthur was wrong.  My anger should be directed at you.”

“Me?!” Marie blinks curiously. “What have I done?”

“Exactly.” Angelica retorts. “What have you done?  The answer is nothing.”

Marie stares at her mother, shaking her head. “Sorry, mom, but I’m confused.  You are not making any damn sense.”

“Let me spell it out for you, then, because I really was upset when you told me about how you and Arthur were having problems.  When I heard you had gotten back together I was happy for you, I really was.  But ever since you two got back together, it’s been hard find you anywhere.  You rarely answer my calls…”

“Look, sorry about that, but I’ve been busy…”

“Sorry?  How about answering this question then…where the hell were you when me and Kayla were getting stomped at Breakdown?”

“Mom, listen…”

“No, you listen.” Angelica snaps back at her, interrupting her. “Your Aunt Kayla and I don’t have many friends right now.  We don’t have anyone except you and Kimberly to rely on and neither one of you were there to back us up.  We could’ve used you.  We…”

“Shut up for a moment!”

Marie’s voice stuns Angelica.  She hasn’t been told to shut up in awhile, let alone by her own daughter.  For her part, Marie is equally as stunned that she said this…but she is thankful that it appears as if Angelica is too stunned to speak.  Marie sighs and resumes speaking…

“I’m sorry we weren’t there, mom.  Had we known something like that was going to happen, we would’ve been there, but we skipped out on that Breakdown.  And I’m sorry, but…” she sighs and shakes her head “…but there will be more Breakdowns like that where Kim and I won’t necessarily be there for you because we’re just not there that night.”

“What are you saying, Marie?”

“I’m saying that I need to start taking care of my own life instead of trying to take care of yours.” She points towards the arena. “That man you snapped at, that man who is carrying my bags to the arena as we speak, that’s my HUSBAND and I damn near lost him because I put everything else in my life ahead of him.  We never had any time for each other because I selfishly put everything ahead of him.  Now does that make that shitty ultimatum he issued any better?”

Marie shakes her head. “No, it doesn’t.  But mom, he was right in the sense that we need more time for each other.  Even Kim has come to accept that and since Under Attack she gave us two entire weeks to ourselves; that’s two weeks away from wrestling and two weeks away from Kim.  Just me and Arthur together to work things out.”

Marie pokes her mother in the chest. “I’m sorry that you and Aunt Kayla dug yourselves into a bit of a grave by declaring war on the entire tag team division and now you don’t have any friends, but you have to accept that Kim and I cannot and will not be there to fight every battle for you.  If we’re there and we happen to be available, then yeah, we’ll help, but you need to understand that me and Kim being there for you every time you and Aunt Kayla are in trouble is no longer a guarantee.”

Angelica’s face has remained stoic and emotionless this entire time as she stares across at Marie.  Eventually her stoic gaze breaks down as tears form in her eyes.

“Marie, please…I know Kayla and I made a lot of mistakes…we both understand that…but we need help…”

“And we’ll be there to help if we can, but I’m through putting everyone else and everything else in my life to the side just because you and Aunt Kayla get yourselves into trouble.” Marie sighs with frustration. “Look, like I said, we’ll be there for you if we can, but you need to understand that I am no longer your little girl.  I’m a grown woman with my own life and my own career.  The fans know it; when I go out to that ring the fans do not see me as the second coming of Angelica Jones but as the first ever Crown Jewel, The Phoenix, as Marie Annabelle Jones.”

Marie turns away from her mother and starts to walk away. “You seem to be the only one who cannot grasp that.”

“Marie, wait!” Angelica exclaims but Marie does not listen. Marie continues to walk away, towards the arena, leaving her mother in the dust.

Some people like to throw out the words insane or crazy at random, not really knowing what they truly mean.  They just use it as a typical, overused insult.  Nothing more, nothing less.  They’ve been used and overused so damn much that people forget the true clinical origins and now legal use of the term has been practically forgotten.

Allow me to enlighten you as to the current legal definition of insanity: mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her or his affairs due to psychosis, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior.

Some of you may feel that Giovanni Aries fits the description, and you may feel that way because of his obsession with a non-existent Lizard King.  But I’m not sure that’s true.  This Lizard King he refers to is quite obviously a certain executive with a difficult to pronounce last name that starts with D…and besides, Mr. Arise most certainly can conduct his affairs…

…but anyone who calls Lexi Von Aaron insane or crazy or mentally unstable would most definitely be on the right track.

For the longest time she lived in a fantasy world where she had this delusion of AJ Helms loving her and as far as uncontrollable impulsive behaviors are concerned?  How about kidnapping and attempting to force AJ Helms into marrying her?  And if you still don’t believe me that she fits the criteria of insane, then let’s go for the trifecta, because she clearly cannot conduct her own affairs.  The girl allows herself to be used and abused by Chad Evans.

Women have fought long and hard to become more than just tools meant to be possessed by their men.  Women have fought long and hard to become more than just trophy wives or trophy girlfriends.  Yet here you are, Lexi, throwing all of that away and what I find real funny about this is that you went from one extreme to the other.  I recall you used to brag about being a virgin.  Now you’re throwing scantily clad pictures up on social media and bragging about being “God’s Bitch”…why?

Why the sudden change?  Are you just having an identity crisis?  Not sure who the hell you are, Lexi?  Nah, I don’t think that’s it.  It’s far too simple an excuse to explain your recent hair-brained behavior.

I’ll tell you what’s wrong with you.

You have no problem whining on twitter about how much you hate everything.  You gripe about how much you hate SCW, how much you hate working there, how much you hate its fans.  It’s enough to make anyone pull their hair out.  I mean, if you hate the place so damn much then why are you still there?  No one is keeping your dumpy ass here, bitch.

But see that’s the thing, it isn’t that you hate SCW, it’s that you hate yourself.  Why else would you allow yourself to be someone else’s bitch…and be proud of it at that…why else would you allow yourself to be kicked around and treated like garbage?

You hate yourself because you finally figured out the one thing that everyone had been trying to get through your thick skull…

…that not only did AJ Helms hate your guts but that your obsessive, stalker-ish, downright insane behavior is what drove him to, how did you put it last month, “leave” you?  You drove him away.  You did it.  No one else did it.

Deny it all you want, Lexi, but you know I speak the truth.  You can claim to hate anything and everything under the sun when in reality you just hate yourself.  So in actuality, you are not insane either.  You just suffer from a self-hatred disorder.

Maybe one day you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and figure out that you can be a better person than what you are today.  I truly hope you do, but for now, sorry to say it, Lexi, but I’m not feeling any real pity on you right now.  And I’m sure you’ll tell me that you don’t want any of my pity.  Well that’s good, because you’re not going to get any pity and you are not going to get any mercy from me when we go head to head, one on one, at Breakdown.

So go ahead and tell your boy toy Chad Evans the bad news.  Apologize in advance for failing him.  Apologize to your god in advance for failing to do “god’s work” because I’m telling you right here and now that there is no way in hell you are beating me.  Your boy may be god, and you may be god’s bitch, but I am The Crown Jewel of Professional Wrestling and in no reality do you beat me.

And somewhere, deep down in your heart and soul…if you still have a heart and soul…you know it too.  You know the reality of the situation that you find yourself in at Breakdown, and that reality is the fact that you are up against The Phoenix and you can never permanently kill The Phoenix.  The Phoenix keeps coming back…she can never and will never die…
