vs. Tommy Cook

“Why do I continue to do this?”

That’s the voice of Jessica Jones, The Archangel.  Where is she?  That’s hard to say.  Based upon the surroundings, it appears to be a boiler room of sorts, perhaps at a wrestling venue where she is competing tonight; she does, after all, compete for two premier wrestling organizations: Global Championship Wrestling and Motor City Wrestling.  But where is this enigma, this mysterious individual who by her own admission still has yet to find herself?  A closer study will find the ravishing red head standing over by a set of heavy doors against a brick wall.

“I keep trying…and trying…and failing…”

Wherever she is, the echoing of her voice and her loud musing would seem to indicate that she may be alone…

…you’d be wrong.

Standing a few feet behind her is an old friend of hers, Summer Newman.  The two have had a unique relationship. They have been allies for the longest time, fighting through a variety of difficult situations including Jessica’s wars for her family’s honor, Summer’s wars for her family’s honor, Jessica stood side by side with her friend when Summer was forced to be the cheerleader valet of a vain, male chauvinist wrestler; but they went their separate ways after they broke free.  Summer found herself caught up in a new movement, the Pure Class movement.  Jessica at first resisted but now, once again, finds herself together with her old friend.

“You keep trying because you wish to succeed.  And success is a noble goal, not just for yourself but for the cause of Purity and Class.  Your success in Motor City Wrestling will bring a spotlight to our cause.  People will pay attention.”

Summer reaches out and places a hand on her friend’s shoulder. “No, you didn’t win the Motor City Championship, and it is a damn shame you were overlooked in being put in the title match at Deliverance, but think about it like this…you beat Jacob Laymon one on one, you beat Drew Stevenson one on one, now you’ll defeat Tommy Cook one on one.  You will eventually make them all sit up and take notice.”

Jessica turns around to face her friend.  The Archangel sighs and shakes her head. “I wasn’t talking about my wrestling pursuits, Summer.”

“Oh?  Well what’s troubling you?”

“My family.” Jessica says with a disappointed sigh. “You have no idea how much I sacrificed for them, how much I fought for them, and yet one of my sisters in particular, Marie, seems willing to throw it all away by placing her trust in the hands of a psychopath like Kimberly Williams.”

“I remember Kim.” Summer says, nodding her head.  “She did perpetrate some rather disturbing acts against your family, if I recall.”

“Disturbing is an understatement.” Jessica says, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “She broke into my mom’s house and threatened her life and the life of my little sister Kelly.  She kidnapped Marie and held her captive for months.  And who was there both times to save the day?  Who was there both times to run Kimberly away from my little sister and later on to find my older sister Marie and subsequently make Kimberly pay for what she did?”

Jessica pats herself on the chest. “Me, I was the one who did it.  Now Marie is trying to reform Kimberly.  She claims Kimberly is ‘good’ now…”

She shakes her head “….well I don’t buy it, but that’s not the worst part.”

“What is the worst part?” Summer asks, arching her brow.

“The worst part is that…” Jessica sighs as she has difficulty uttering these next words “…Kimberly is my half-sister, too.”

“I thought her mother was Emma Storm?”

“That’s what we all thought, but we recently discovered that Angelica Jones is Kimberly’s mother.” Jessica shakes her head.  “I mean, it’s easy to go along looking at Kim as just another psychopath but it’s entirely different when she’s family.”

“I see.” Summer says sympathetically. “But just know that no matter what happens with your biological family, you have a new family, a true family, with Pure Class.  Ms. Austin and Ms. Inglewood will guide you, just as they guide me, and they will guide you far better than Angelica ever did.  Remember that Pure Class is there for you.”

Jessica smiles. “Thank you Summer, I may need to remember that in the future…”

So British Strong Style has arrived in Detroit?

That’s excellent.  I look forward to seeing what British Strong Style is all about.  Throughout my career, Tommy, I’ve fought everyone with every kind of special talent and their unique style and I managed to adapt with each and every one of them.  It didn’t matter to me if they wanted to be hardcore or if they wanted to take to the air like a glorified jet plane.  It didn’t matter to me if they wanted to use a power based offense or mat wrestle me. I have always been able to hang with the biggest and baddest and best of them all.

You and your style won’t be any different.  I’ll be able to hang, I’ll outwork and outwrestle you, and at the end of the day, I’ll drop you.  Just like I dropped Jacob Laymon.  Just like I dropped Drew Stevenson.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter how big or bad you are, because a good technical wrestler will, in the end, wrestle anyone down to the mat and, who knows, they may even may make them submit?

I’m not going for a submission only, Tommy.  I’m looking for the win whether I get it by pin fall or submission.  But I won’t take the win by any means necessary, because unlike the corrupted individuals running rampant in this company, that have defiled this great company’s once honorable name, I do not need to take shortcuts and cheap tricks to take down the likes of you, Tommy Cook.

I just need to keep on doing what I’ve been doing since I arrived in Detroit for Motor City Wrestling; take the fight directly to you, right in your face, without backing down, without giving up.  You are bigger and no doubt badder than me, I’ll give you that, but you can’t kill my heart and my passion for this sport and this company.  No one can kill my passion.

That’s why I still fight despite everything that has happened since Purgatory.  That is why I still fight despite being screwed out of the Motor City Championship, despite not getting added to the Motor City Title Match at Deliverance when I’ve already beaten the former champ, despite watching the scum of the earth unite to protect a woman who clearly thinks she needs protection in order to rule this company.

My heart and my passion, my drive for this sport, will not let me give up, Tommy, and if all of that can’t stop me, then neither can you.  You can knock me down and I’ll get right back up and keep coming.  You can knock my lights out and I’ll get right back up and keep coming.

I’m your worst nightmare, Tommy, because I’m the one wrestler who you can’t bully, you can’t keep down, who you just cannot force into submission with your Strong Style.  I am The Archangel and purity is coming for you, Tommy, whether you like it or not.

Come and place your bets…Dobranoc…

Healing: Part 8

==========
Scene 1

==========

Redemption has always been on the mind of Marie Annabelle Jones.  It hadn’t been long ago that the seeming heir to the Jones wrestling family had been on her own quest for redemption, a quest to prove that she could get the job done on her own without cheap tricks or cheating ways.  Along the way she gained a new agent, Adam Chase.  She earned a shot at the SCW United States Championship at Fatal Fortunes and then would go on to become SCW United States Champion with a victory over Tyler Tucker.  There was just one final step along the way, one final roadblock…

…Taking Hold of the Flame.

Tyler Tucker deserved a rematch and Marie had no problem granting him one at this pay per view extravaganza, but there was also the issue of Regan Street constantly attacking, constantly trying to bully her way into the United States Championship Match.

In a way, Regan reminded Marie a lot of herself before redemption; always throwing a tantrum whenever she didn’t get her way.  Refusing to go about things the right way.  For Marie, this was more than just a simple title defense.  This was truly the final part of her redemption s tory.  This was about sending a message.  So she specifically requested that Regan be added to the match, making it a triple threat.

In a hotly contested, fast paced match, Marie Annabelle Jones managed to defeat Regan and Tucker to come out of Taking Hold of the Flame with the SCW United States Championship.  And what’s more is that she lasted nearly thirty minutes in the Taking Hold of the Flame battle royal.

It was truly a confidence booster for Jones.  She may not have won the great rumble match, but she did put on an impressive performance and that was after she had her successful defense of the US Title.  Now, Marie truly feels as if her redemption quest is complete and that she truly has earned the right not just to call herself The Phoenix but to once again call herself The Crown Jewel of Professional Wrestling.

Regan is still throwing her temper tantrums in an attempt to get another title shot, but this time it isn’t working.  Marie already gave her an opportunity and Mr. D, after Regan’s assault on him at Taking Hold of the Flame and her subsequent refusal to apologize for it, is blocking her from receiving another title opportunity.  The next opportunity has been granted to an individual who has had a bit of an up and down career lately SCW…

…Jinn.

Jinn has had a solid run in SCW thus far.  He even participated in the Shot of Adrenaline Tournament, coming up just short.  Lately he has had a string of bad luck including a loss to Selena Frost and attacks from Josh Hudson which caused a match between him and Syren to never take place, and yet Jinn has this title opportunity.  Some will no doubt question the decision from management, Marie even questions it herself, but she won’t complain like Regan Street might.  Marie sees this as another chance, an opportunity to be the fighting champion that she wants to be.  Truth be told, Marie herself realizes that she earned her US Title opportunity upon pure luck, luck that she took advantage of.

Jinn now has that same chance and it is up to Marie in order to make sure that lightning doesn’t strike twice for Jinn.

That’s Supreme Saturday, live from Puerto Rico, and Jones will do whatever she can to defend her title, but personal life comes before professional life and Marie has a whole host of family issues she is currently dealing with.

Marie’s twin sister, Kimberly Williams, had been suffering from mental instability for almost her entire adult life.  That instability led to many confrontations between Kimberly and the Jones family.  Kimberly’s sister Marie, their mother Angelica, none of them could trust Kimberly and none of them wanted anything to do with her.  Marie, for the longest time, wouldn’t give her a chance.  Only recently did Marie attempt to help her twin change her ways.  Now Marie is convinced that her identical twin is serious about making changes; serious enough that Kimberly committed herself into a mental institution in order to receive the help she needed.

Now, it seems, as if there is at least some light at the end of the tunnel.

We open on the front lawn of a somewhat upscale home on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts.  It’s a modest two story home, modest considering the person who lives here.  This is Marie Annabelle Jones’s home.  While she is used to a little bit of class and luxury, she lives here with her husband Arthur Pond.  A large van is parked out front.  And she, along with her husband, Arthur, are taking objects, packages, and other items from the van towards the front door.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?”  Arthur asks, as he walks towards the front door carrying a large, heavy brown box which, no doubt, contains someone’s personal belongings.

“We don’t have much of a choice right now, Arthur.” Marie states as she follows Arthur, carrying a bag over her shoulder that also contains someone’s personal items. “We’re kind of committed now.”

“No, we’re not the ones committed,” he chuckles “if you catch my drift.”

Marie is about to answer when a redheaded female figure rushes past both her and Arthur, carrying another bag.

“Are you talking about me?”

This is Kimberly Williams, Marie’s identical twin sister, and it is her belongings which Arthur and Marie are about to bring inside this home.  Kimberly was recently granted a clean bill of mental health by Dr. Jennifer Warren and has been allowed to leave the hospital, but with one provision; Kimberly could not be alone, at least not immediately.  Kimberly would have to be under the strict supervision of someone close, someone trustworthy.

In this case, Kimberly would temporarily be staying with Marie and Arthur; at least until further notice, until there are no signs of relapse from the once psychotic and unstable Kimberly Williams.

Marie knows that this is a necessity, but she worries about her husband Arthur.  Marie’s husband is supportive of Marie and everything she does, which has included her attempts to help Kimberly in her journey towards mental health and stability.  But despite this, Marie can sense that secretly he is skeptical of Kimberly, skeptical of whether or not she can truly make a full recovery.

“Yes, we’re talking about you.” Arthur says with a sigh. “Could you please open the door since you rushed ahead of us?”

“What’s wrong?” Kimberly asks with a wink. “Hands full?”

“Yeah, you could say that.” Arthur says, rolling his eyes.

“Oh I don’t know if I should.” Kimberly teases. “I’m not sure if I’m feeling very helpful today.”

“Just open the door for us, Kim.” Marie responds, chiming in before Arthur could.

“Sure thing, sis, but only because you asked so nicely.”

Kimberly approaches the front door and opens it up.  Arthur steps inside first and sets the box down.  Marie is next and she sets the bag down.  Kimberly then sets her bag down and she shuts the door behind her.  She kisses Arthur on the cheeks.

“Thanks, guys!”

“No problem, Kim, but,” he wipes his cheek with the back of his hand “you really don’t need to thank us.”

“Yeah,” Marie places her hands on her hips and stares incredulously at her twin sibling “and I’d appreciate you not kissing my husband all the time.”

“Oh, silly me,” Kimberly says right before rushing over and kissing Marie on her cheek as well “you feel left out!”

Marie sighs and rolls her eyes. “Whatever you say, sis.  Whatever you say.”

It will definitely be a challenging situation for the husband wife duo to get used to, especially for Arthur who already has a slight distrust for Kimberly.  But Marie is determined to make this work out for all involved.  She wants to see her sister better and knows that they are so very close to achieving that goal.

She follows Kimberly as she leads them into the living room.  Kimberly immediately jumps over the top and onto the sofa, Marie sighs as she and Arthur walk over and look down upon Kimberly, who is already making herself feel at home in the new surroundings.

“Thanks for leaving us a seat, sis.”

“Sorry, babe.”  Kimberly pulls her knees up, opening up one more spot on the sofa. “That darling hubby of yours can sit here next to me.”

“No thanks,” Arthur sighs and shakes his head “I’ll just sit over here…”

Arthur walks over to a nearby love seat and sits down.  Marie shrugs her shoulders and sits down next to Kimberly.

“Welcome to your new home, Kim.”

“My new home, sis?”

“Well, at least until this probationary period is over.” Marie states. “And at least until you can get your own place.”

“Well I do appreciate it, sis, I really do.” Kimberly swings her feet over back onto the floor and sits up on the sofa. “I know I’m a goof at times…”

“At times?” Arthur chimes in.

“Ok, frequently I’m a goof,” Kimberly says with a smirk “but I really do appreciate this, you guys.  I’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve this opportunity, I’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve your help, and yet here you are, helping me.”

“We’re family, Kim,” Marie says with a warm smile, gazing into her sister’s eyes “it’s what we do.”

“Is that so?” Kimberly shakes her head, that smirk she had once had seems to dissipate. “You did help me but in doing so you lost your family.”

Marie furrows her brow in confusion. “What do you mean?  Mom and I are still on good terms.  And Kayla and I are…”

“I don’t mean mom or Aunt Kayla.”

Marie pauses before nodding her head in realization.  Kimberly isn’t referring to either Angelica nor to Kayla.  The family Marie’s twin sister is referring to is none other than the middle child, the daughter of Andreas Lasiewicz and Angelica Jones, that being Jessica Jones.

Jessica probably has the most trouble with Kimberly.  Biologically they are half-sisters but Jessica refuses to acknowledge her.  When Kimberly was still unstable, she had kidnapped Marie.  Jessica took a great deal of risk in rescuing Marie.  Now to see Marie turning around and trying to help Kimberly, trusting Kimberly, is more than Jessica can stomach.

It didn’t help matters that Jessica had always been jealous of the attention Marie and Kimberly received from their mother, the legendary Angelica Jones.  Even now it seems that the family seems willing to bend over backward to help Kimberly and Marie.  At least, that’s how Marie perceives it.

It wasn’t long ago that Kimberly personally bore witness to Jessica ending her relationship with Marie and Kimberly feels a sense of guilt over what happened, as if she herself is somewhat to blame.

“Kimberly, if you’re talking about Jessica…”

“Don’t say anything.” Kimberly shakes her head. “I already feel guilty enough as it is.”

“Well you shouldn’t.” Marie responds. “It’s not your fault.  You did nothing.”

“Didn’t I?” Kimberly bows her head in shame. “I did kidnap you, Marie.  I tried to hurt our mom.  I’ve done…”

She shakes her head “…I’ve done so many terrible things.  I earned every bit of scorn and hate I have received from Jessica and the rest of the family.  I’m not sure I even deserve this second chance I’m getting.”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Marie responds, placing a hand on Kimberly’s shoulder. “You’ve worked so hard and done so much to try and better yourself.  You sacrificed and went that extra mile to fix your mental issues.  You deserve this chance, Kim.”

“Maybe, but…” Kim’s voice trails off “…had I just not gotten involved, you two would still be on good terms.  It’s my fault…”

“No!” Marie exclaims. “Do not talk like that!”

Jones sighs. “You know what?  Let’s just forget about Jessica, ok?  Let’s forget about her.  You’re here with Arthur and I now and regardless of what Jessica or anyone else may say, you deserve this chance, and we’re here to help you.”

“And I am grateful,” Kim says with a hint of sadness “but I’m still not sure I deserve this.”

Kimberly looks over at Arthur.  “Would you go get your wifey and I some drinks?”

“Sure.” Arthur gets up and exits the room.

“Thanks, hot stuff.” Kimberly calls out after him.

“Hot stuff?” Marie says, studying Kimberly skeptically. “Really?”

“What?  He is hot.”

“Thanks…” Marie reacts, her voice trailing off.

“Don’t mention it,” Kim wraps an arm around Marie’s shoulder “you’ve definitely earned it, and you’ve earned time with that stud, especially after your performance at Taking Hold of the Flame.  Thirty minutes in that rumble match!”

“Yeah?” Marie shakes her head. “Well I didn’t win.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Kimberly retorts “forty people in that match, you lasted damn near thirty minutes, and that was AFTER a successful SCW United States Championship defense.”

She winks at Marie. “Which I also think was quite impressive, might I add.”

Finally Jones manages a smile. “Yeah, I particularly enjoyed that one, considering I gave that bully Regan a taste of her own medicine.”

“So who is the next victim?”

“You mean my next challenger?”

“Victim, challenger,” Kimberly shrugs her shoulders “same thing.”

Marie chuckles. “Yeah, well, his name is Jinn.”

“Gin?  Wait, you’re fighting a dude named after an alcoholic beverage?!”

“No,” Marie rolls her eyes “Jinn has been with SCW for awhile now.  He’s getting a title shot at Supreme Saturday in Puerto Rico.”

“What’d he do to deserve a title shot?”

“Who knows?” Marie shrugs her shoulders. “And honestly, who cares?  Some people just need a chance, they just need an opportunity.  I needed one, and I took advantage.  You needed one, and Arthur and I are helping you take advantage of yours.  Jinn gets his…”

Marie smirks “…but I won’t let him take advantage of his opportunity.”

“Auntie Kim!” Marie and Kim are interrupted by the childlike voice of Marie’s young son Sean Connor Jones rushing into the room. “Auntie Kim!”

The youngster leaps onto the sofa, onto Kim’s lap. “Oof!  Careful, kiddo, you might hurt my lady parts!”

“Kim!” Marie exclaims.

Kim snickers. “Sorry, Marie.”

“Mom,” Sean turns to look at Marie “is Auntie Kim staying with us?”

Marie nods her head. “Yes she is, Sean.  Aunt Kim is going to be with us for awhile.”

“Yay!” Sean embraces Kim in a tight hug. “I love you, Auntie Kim!”

“Love you too, kiddo.” She winks at Marie. “See, Marie, that’s one member of the Jones family who loves me!   Progress!”

Marie snickers. “He always liked you, but if you want to call that progress, go for it.”

“Hey, let me have my small victories.  I have a bad feeling that this may be my last one for a long time.”

==========

Family is very important to Marie Annabelle Jones.  It is so important that she would no doubt sacrifice the US Championship that she worked so hard to earn just to protect her family.  She’s already proven her devotion to her family in the sense that she is potentially sacrificing relationships with certain members of the family so that she may be able to help her twin sister Kimberly recover.

Despite Marie’s attempts to convince herself and Kim otherwise, Marie knows that their mother Angelica does have her reservations about Kimberly Williams.  Their Aunt Kayla may never trust her and Jessica Jones, their half-sister, will absolutely never trust nor like her; and by association, Marie may no longer have the same relationships with those individuals that she once did.

It doesn’t matter, to Marie.  It’s a risk she’s willing to take because it is simply the right thing to do and if their mother, their aunt, or even their half-sister have problems with it, then they can take it up with her.  Marie will do what is right, regardless of the consequences.

She feels good about what she is doing, she doesn’t question what she is doing.  And that’s a good thing, because that means it won’t be on her mind, eating away at her conscience.  She can focus instead on the individual that threatens her United States Championship run in her professional career in SCW.

That threat is the man known as Jinn.  This is yet another example of a once in a lifetime opportunity, the type that Marie knows a great deal about, for she took advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity to become SCW United States Champion in the first place.  Now Jinn has the chance to do the same.

But Marie won’t let it happen.

Morning has come in Boston, Massachusetts and yet it is still dark outside, approximately one o’clock in the morning.  The curtains rustle about in the wind, the light flickers, and yet neither Marie Annabelle Jones nor the man sleeping next to her in the king size bed, her husband Arthur Pond, wake up from their peaceful slumber; a peace that they haven’t had all day. Marie’s iPhone sits on a brown nightstand next to her side of the bed.  The phone begins to vibrate, creating some small noise.  Marie’s eyes flutter; eventually she opens them completely as she slowly wakes up.  Jones stares blankly at her surroundings, before turning over and turning on the lamp on the nightstand.

“Who is calling me at this time of the night?!”

She picks up the phone to check the caller ID.  Jones sighs and shakes her head.

“Why the hell…”

“Is everything ok?”

Marie turns her head and notices that she has managed to wake up Arthur.  She shakes her head.

“I’m sorry, babe,” Marie says silently “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”

“It’s no big deal.” He sighs, shaking his head. “I haven’t been able to sleep much anyway.  It’s kind of hard to knowing that Kimberly is under our roof now.”

“Yeah, and I’m sorry about that too.” Marie says, biting her lower lip. “She’s my responsibility, not yours, and you got drug into this because of me.”

“Don’t you dare apologize.” Arthur takes her hands and squeezes them tightly. “When we said our wedding vows we became partners in life, ok?  This is as much my responsibility as it is yours.”

“Yeah, but I know how much she bothers you.”

“True,” he chuckles “but I think Kimberly and I can learn to get along.”

He runs his hand through Marie’s long red hair. “We both like a certain ginger.”

“That may be the case,” she leans over and kisses Arthur on his lips “but I only belong to one guy.”

“And who would that…” Arthur’s response is interrupted when Marie’s iPhone again starts buzzing “…be?”

Marie sighs as she sets her phone aside.  “It’s nothing, just something I should go ahead and take care of.”

Marie swings her legs over the side of the bed and starts to sit up “Whoa…” but Arthur pulls her back down “…where you going?”

“I need to take care of something.”

Arthur frowns. “Does this have to do with Kim?”

Marie shakes her head. “No…” she pulls her arm away “…but this is something I should take care of myself.”

Arthur stares at her skeptically, unsure of whether he should let her go by herself into who knows where.  But as he stares into her eyes he can see that Jones stubborn streak beginning to ebb over the surface.  He realizes that he won’t win this argument.

“Fine, but be careful.”

“You know I’m always careful.”

Arthur rolls his eyes.  “Right.”

Jones gets up out of bed.  Right now she is a beautiful figure of sexy femininity attired in sexy black lace panties and bra.  Unfortunately this attire won’t do, not for what Marie needs to do.  She walks over to the full length mirror and the bends down to her discarded pile of clothes.  First she steps back into her tropical print peplum hem lace-up back mini sundress.  She goes for a pair of simple flip flops instead of her usual sandals or high heels.  She turns and starts to head towards the bedroom door to exit when Arthur calls out to her…

“Marie, wait!”

She stops. “Yes?”

“Aren’t you at least going to take the gun?”

“The gun?” Marie scoffs and then shakes her head. “I don’t need the gun for this.”

Marie exits outside into the hallway and looks from side to side before walking a short distance down the hall towards the staircase.  The stairs ahead were twisted in a perfect spiral.  Each stair was a deep walnut.  The inner edge was painted antique cream.  She let her hand fall on to the iron rail, rough in its rustic charm and placed her weight on the first step.  As silently as she can, so as to avoid waking up Kimberly, Marie makes her way down the steps to the first floor.  As soon as she reaches the bottom she heads straight to the front door and opens it.  She doesn’t seem surprised to find her half-sister, Jessica Jones, standing there.

“What the hell are you thinking?!” Marie exclaims loudly, which draws a smirk from Jessica.

“Careful.  You don’t want to wake anyone, do you?”

“Arthur is already awake, thanks to your phone calls.”

“Perhaps, but what about your son?  Or what about that murderous psycho you’re living with now?”

As much as it pains her to admit it, Jessica is right.  If she gets too loud she could wake up her son Sean or worse yet, wake up Kimberly.  She doesn’t want Kimberly involved in this.  Kimberly doesn’t need to be involved in this.

“Fine, let’s take this outside then.”

Marie quickly exits and shuts the door behind her.  She stands face to face, nose to nose, with her half-sister, the one who had assaulted her not too long ago.  There is a clear tension here as Marie speaks first.

“So, what do you want, Jess?”

“I just wanted to clear the air about a few things.  We clearly didn’t end things on a happy note the last time we spoke.”

Marie shakes her head. “No, we didn’t.  In fact, I was surprised you came by.  I thought you hated me.”

“You think that I hate you?” Jessica chuckles. “I don’t hate you, Marie.  I could never hate family.  But pity you…”

She smirks “…yeah, I pity you because mom handed everything to you.  I had to learn how to earn things the hard way.  I learned how brutally evil the world really and truly is.”

“Is that so?” Marie rolls her eyes. “I think I know a little about reality, Jess.  I’ve had to earn things myself.”

“Like what?  That SCW United States Championship?”  Jessica scoffs. “You hardly earned that.  You were lucky to be drawn for a contender’s match in Fatal Fortunes to get to that title.  Now you may very well lose it to another loser who doesn’t deserve a title shot.  What is that idiot’s name again?”

“His name is Jinn and I would hardly call him an idiot.  He is a legitimate threat to my title.”

Jessica shrugs her shoulders. “Highly doubtful, and as far as you being in touch with reality; well if you were in touch with reality, you wouldn’t have allowed a known psychopath sleep under your roof with your family.”

“You don’t know a damn thing about Kim, and to be honest,” she pokes Jessica in the chest “I’m sick of you disparaging her.”

“I’m not disparaging her.  I’m stating facts.  She kidnapped you, Marie.  What sane person does that?”

Marie nods her head. “I know but she has taken real, serious steps to better herself.  Why the hell can’t you see that?”

“Because I am a realist while you are an idealist.  You think the best of people.” Jessica scowls. “I know that the worst of people is more often than not their true selves.”

“You can’t put everyone into that same category.  And no, you can’t even judge Kim that way. Not when she’s done so much to change.”

“You’re wrong.” Jessica remarks in a low growl. “And this time, when you realize that you are wrong about her, I will not be here to help you.”

The sound of the front door opening up startles both women.  They turn to spot Kimberly Williams standing there, glaring a hole right through Jessica.

“Thanks for defending me, Marie,” Kim remarks “but I can take care of myself.”

Marie’s face goes pale.  She senses that only bad can come of this, both her half-sister and her identical twin sister being out here right now.  Jessica just laughs at her.

“Well, look at who we have here, the psychopath herself.”

“Leave her alone, Jessica.” Marie snaps.

“Or what?”

“Back off, sis.” Kimberly commands as she steps in between Marie and Jessica. “She has a problem with me.  Not you.”

“Gee, how noble.” Jessica scoffs. “I didn’t know that you had a noble bone in your body, Kim.”

“Fair enough,” Kimberly smirks “I guess anger management issues run in your daddy’s family then, eh?”

Jessica’s anger boils over and before anyone can react she rears back and punches Kimberly in the eye, staggering her backward.

“Kim!  Jessica!”

Marie tries to help Kim up but Kim pushes her away. “No, don’t get involved!”

Marie watches with shock on her face as Kimberly faces Jessica again.  Jessica punches her one more time in the face, staggering her backward.  Jessica then punches her in the gut, doubling her over.  Jessica then drives a knee into the side of Kim’s head, causing Kim to fall to the ground.

“Kim!” Marie drops down to help her fallen sister.  Jessica watches on with her anger still boiling over until one more face emerges from the doorway.

“Auntie Kim?  Auntie Jessica?”

It’s the sweet, young face of Sean Connor Jones, Marie’s young son.  Marie looks up at Sean and shouts towards him.

“Go back inside, Sean!  NOW!”

Sean nods and runs inside.  Marie the turns and glares at Jessica.  “Is this how you want your son to remember you?!”

“I…didn’t…I didn’t mean to…”

“Who is the psychopath, Jessica?”

Marie stands back up and gets in Jessica’s face. “ANSWER ME!”

“I’m sorry, I…I got to go…”

Jessica quickly runs off, making a hasty retreat back from whence she came.  Once she is gone Marie kneels back down to tend to her twin sister Kimberly.

“Kimberly, what the hell happened?!”

“What…what kinda question is that…” Kimberly’s voice trails off as she is clearly in pain “…you were here, you saw her kick…ugh…kick my ass…”

“I know but…you let her.”

“Huh?”

“After that first punch you just stood there and let her do it again, and again, and again.  You didn’t fight back.”

“So?”

“So…the Kimberly I know would’ve fought back, she would’ve maimed Jessica.”

Kimberly manages a sly grin. “I guess I’m not the same person I used to be.”

Tears form in Marie’s eyes but these are tears of relief and joy, as she realizes exactly what Kimberly is trying to tell her.  The fact that Kimberly showed such restraint here is evidence of the change that has taken place in Kimberly’s life.  It is evidence that, perhaps, Kimberly has finally reached that goal of normalcy that she has always wanted.  Now maybe there is hope of Kimberly being accepted into the Jones family.

Though it will be a long, hard and difficult road to travel across as they try to earn their trust, but Marie will be there for her every step of the way.  The only question now is, where does that leave Jessica Jones?

Opportunities are hard to come by and all too often opportunities are granted to those who do not deserve them.  I will be the first to admit that I would never had my opportunity had it not been for the luck of the draw. Fatal Fortunes deemed that I get placed into that US Title Contender’s Match.  Sure, I pulled off the win on my own, sure I would go on to defeat Tyler Tucker on my own, but it was luck that put me ahead of the line so quickly.  I questioned whether or not I really and truly deserved that spot, that opportunity, that I had been so graciously blessed with thanks to Lady Luck.

That’s part of the reason I wanted Regan Street added to the United States Championship Match at Taking Hold of the Flame.  A part of me agreed with her that she deserved more opportunities than what she had been getting.  But you don’t go about getting those opportunities by jumping people from behind, by throwing temper tantrums, and you damn sure don’t earn those opportunities by attacking the owner of this company.  So I also wanted to teach Regan a lesson that she would never forget.

You had your opportunity, Regan, whether you deserved it or not, and you blew it.  You had your chance to become SCW United States Champion and you failed to deliver when all of the chips were down.  Simply put, you couldn’t beat The Crown Jewel of Professional Wrestling, because once again, like my namesake, I rose to the occasion like the mythical Phoenix.  I defeated you, I defeated Tyler Tucker, and then I went on to last nearly thirty minutes in the Taking Hold of the Flame battle royal.

Am I disappointed that I couldn’t win the whole thing?  Yeah, but am I going to throw a tantrum and demand that I be added to the main event?  No, I won’t, because that’s not how you earn your opportunities.  That’s not how you get what you really want in this business.  I had to learn that the hard way and I hope you learn that too, Regan.  I sincerely do.

If you want a true example of opportunities that come once in a lifetime, just look at my opponent for Supreme Saturday, the man known as Jinn.

Jinn, it’s funny, unlike me, who lady luck smiled down upon in my return to SCW, lady luck has seemingly been a real bitch to you.  You fought bravely in Shot of Adrenaline but you couldn’t quite get the job done.  You got some tough draws leading up to Taking Hold of the Flame, opponents such as Selena Frost, a tough loss but a good, solid attempt.

And then there was Syren…the match that never could get under way thanks to Josh Hudson.  Then the next week, when you wanted a match on Breakdown, Hudson struck again, and he attacked you.

It seems as if Lady Luck hates you, Jinn.  And I hate that, because when it comes down to it, I don’t want it to be said that I beat you because you had bad luck.  I don’t want you or any of my opponents to have any kind of excuses to make.

So I hope you get your lucky penny, lucky rabbit’s foot, or any other lucky charm you can think of. Say your prayers to whatever god, if any, that you worship.  Make sure luck, at the very least, isn’t a factor in this match.  And prepare for this opportunity, an opportunity some would say that you don’t deserve, because it has indeed been a long time since you had any kind of victorious moment in SCW.

Yet here you are, on the precipice of championship gold at Supreme Saturday from Puerto Rico.

I’m not going to badger you all day long about that because it would make me a hypocrite.  Just understand that you, like me before, probably don’t deserve this opportunity.  But that’s the great thing about opportunities, and it sends a great message to everyone in SCW that patience, perseverance, and hard work will eventually pay off.

You clearly opened up someone’s eyes with how you keep fighting on, no matter what, despite the losses, despite being blindsided, you just keep on going regardless, and that says a great deal about you.  Perhaps that’s why you got this title opportunity?

Whatever the reason may be, prepare for it, Jinn.  Make sure you are at your very best and make sure you are ready to try and take full advantage of it.

Notice I said try…because that’s all you can do, Jinn, is try.  You will try and like Tyler, like Regan, you will be added to the list of challengers who failed to stop me.

You don’t have it in you physically to stop me and you don’t have it in you mentally to stop me, because I’m telling you right here and right now, with all due respect, I want this more than you could ever want this.  I mean, seriously, do you even know where we are?

Don’t say Puerto Rico, either.

This the Road To Rise To Greatness!  And it will be my very first Rise To Greatness!

I remember last year my mom and my aunt competing in individual singles action.  My aunt Kayla was NOT happy about being on the pre-show…heh…

I remember two years ago, my mom and my sister alongside Harmony Fisher did battle against Silas World.

I remember three years ago.  It was my mom’s first Rise To Greatness and she fought Stacy Kissinger and Chris Cannon in a triple threat match.

This is my first Rise To Greatness, Jinn, and I’m oh so close to walking in as a champion.  But you’re the only obstacle I have before me.  I already overcame Fatal Fortunes, I overcame Tyler Tucker, and I overcame Regan Street.  Now you’re the last obstacle between me and walking into Rise To Greatness as the United States Champion.

I love this business, Jinn, and I love what I do, and I also this company for giving me a second chance that, perhaps, I didn’t deserve.  I will eternally be grateful to SCW and that’s why I am damn proud to represent this company as its US Champion!

Needless to say, this won’t be easy for you.  I want to walk into Rise To Greatness as champion more than anything else and that means getting past you, first.  So you are my number one priority.   You are my number one focus here and now.

Your past doesn’t matter to me, and our respective futures does not matter to me.  You are a threat to me right NOW, a threat that I am taking very seriously, a threat that I will eliminate.

So congratulations on the opportunity, Jinn; an opportunity, but I will do everything I can to make sure it's just that...an opportunity, because I am The Phoenix, The Crown Jewel of Professional Wrestling, and the SCW United States Champion Marie Annabelle Jones and I will not lose!
